Rescued Little Lizard

Rescued little lizard with pool tool from drowning in Jacuzzi spa,
and carried lizard to grass and flower filled field on hillside yards from pool. 
Lizard resisted being released...
Wonder what would have happened if I tried lifting lizard with my hands... Do they bite?
I wonder if the little lizard got bloated in the spa when he could not exit on his own. 

I submitted this May 2019 photo in July 2019 for ID where I am an official Observer with CA Academy of Sciences on iNaturalist. 
Another certified observer, Diego, added ID:  Western Fence Lizard, Sceloporus occidentalis. 

I continue to leave out plates of water on very hot days. Last summer it was 120*.  I don't know if lizards like sipping water.
When I was a kid, I think my mom had pet lizards and kept them in fish type tanks.
